Rex the Runt

I was Runner for a year on Rex the Runt for a year.

Between running around for the production I got to work in the Art Department and on some puppets. Here I made the seat cushions and the throw cushions which have aluminium mesh in side to make them Animatible.

Stop Motion Animated Feature Film

I was a member of the Art Department team making Props, Models some set building work.

Around Easter 2016 to December, I moved over to the Puppet Department. Sculpting and cleaning up the main Characters, made in 'Plasticine' - Newplast Modelling Clay.

I was responsible for maintaining the Sculpt Chuck Steel, the main Character, for all the Animators. As well as other main and background Characters.

In this film the animators 'sculpt through' meaning they start the shot with one head and sculpt every frame to change the puppets expression and the mouth for lips sync of the dialogue. The film is being shot on ones, that is every frame is animated. It takes time. Once the shot is over they would prep the puppets for the next shot sometimes coming back to the Puppet Department for a new clean Sculpted puppet head.

At the moment I am unable to put any images up until the film is release.

Here's Chuck. The Lead Character who I repeatedly sculpted and cleaned up all for the Animators until Christmas 2016. (I also made the basic sculpt of the large head in the background of this shot).

Typical Background Characters
This one of my colleagues is at work, animating a selection of background characters. These are typical of the Background Characters that I would clean up between shots.

Making Leather Upholstered seating for interior set
This is me at work building seating to go on set, whilst working in the Art Department.
MDF base, wadding and leather upholstery. Finished to look like stitched fluted forms.
I then fitted this into the set, Stained and painted, the wood surrounds, distressed the woodwork to looked used. Fitted the light fittings between each bay of seating.

One happy chappy. This is the type of back street that I built parts of. This finished version which has been assembled, to make the complete set, then painted and set dress.

RADWA Chickens

RADWA Chickens, This was for adverts for Saudi Arabia. I began as Prop and set maker and then worked as assistant Animator to Terry Brain.

Ice Cube made so that the Animator would be able to reach the puppet.

I made this ice cube using acrylic sheet. Cutting with a hacksaw. The folding at right angles with a hot glue gun. Once the edges were glue into a cube I then melted the Acrylic with the hot air gun. Then I smeared clear bathroom silicone over the surface to give the icey appearance.

Uber pop Video lead female character.

A puppet in a week, working at home to make the armature was quiet testing at times; I silver soldiered these on my kitchen floor kneeling on my knees. Near to the back door for ventilation and the least likely spot to be a fire hazard!

The main female character had to look like Plasticine, in fact it is Sculpy Mold Maker coloured with Acrylics.

She has a simple twisted Aluminium wire and K&S armature.
(The clothes were made by someone else)

Museum Props for Children's Workshops

March 2017

I made three types of Props for Workshops for Children for Moorpool Hall Educational outreach, Harbourne, Birmingham.

I made two set ups to make a wattle and daub walls. Two lengths, with seven upright poles. This is to make a traditional wall using sticks collected locally to the Hall.

The children have to collect sticks then weave them in and out of the upright poles

I designed the wall so that the uprights can be locked in place from under the base.
This was done intentionally so that it is easier to store.

The props are for workshops for 6-7 year old children to learn about how things are made when building a house.
These are smaller so that they would be suitable for small hands.

This is for the children to try out glazing a window. There are 16 Perspex panes which fit into these rebated windows. I used to layer of MDF laser cut so that there was a recess for the perspex pane to fit into.

I made the panel into two pieces and hinged it to make it easier to transport and store.

Hart's Bakery 'Polar Express' Christmas 2014

I was asked to do the wall display at Hart's Bakery, near to Temple Meads Station, in Bristol.

Laura Hart suggested 'Polar Express' as the theme and I suggested three images based on views from a train window.

Last year I had a couple of months to prepare, this year it was a couple of weeks, and I have a full time job. It's been hard work and I've thoroughly enjoyed it all.
